The India side, captained by Rohit Sharma, defeated the Pakistan side, captained by Babar Azam in their Super 4 match at the Asia Cup in 2023.
India’s Super 4 match against Pakistan at the Asia Cup 2023 was won by the team captained by Rohit Sharma. When it came to batting and bowling, the Indian cricket squad was flawless. India crushed a listless Pakistan by a record 228-run margin in a rain-marred Super Four game of the Asia Cup on Sunday, with Virat Kohli’s supreme fitness on display in his 47th ODI century and KL Rahul’s return to form producing an equally fascinating tonne on homecoming. In terms of runs scored, this is India’s biggest victory to date over its neighboring countries.
“There are no ifs ands in cricket. India looked like they could have defended 266 the other day if the game (1st match) had continued the way Pakistan batted today. You know, there’s this ongoing joke, especially in Pakistan, about how India only has two or three good players. What exactly is Pakistan’s player count? Especially in regards to their hitting. I mean, besides Babar Azam, what do they have? On the India Today show, Sunil Gavaskar was questioned.
“When the opposing bowling unit analyses their batting, a lot of their focus will be on figuring out how to dismiss Babar Azam. But I seriously doubt that they would devote even a quarter of their time to the rest. There is nothing there that would cause concern among the opposing team’s bowlers.
India’s 356-2 total included centuries from Kohli (122 not out off 94 balls) and Rahul (111 not out off 106 balls), the latter of which was Rahul’s sixth ODI century. Pakistan’s chase collapsed to 128 for 8 thanks to Kuldeep Yadav (5/25).
With this century, Kohli has moved to within two of Sachin Tendulkar’s ODI record of 49 centuries. When India resumed play after being reduced to 147 for 2 in 24.1 overs the following day, they relied heavily on Kohli and Rahul, their two overnight hitters, to produce large scores.
Kohli’s third wicket stand with Rahul was worth 233 runs, making it India’s greatest ODI partnership against Pakistan.
Kohli became the fastest batsman to reach 13,000 runs in One Day Internationals while also recording his fourth hundred in as many innings at the R Premadasa Stadium on his way to his 77th international century.
Kohli joins South Africa’s Hashim Amla as the only batters to score four consecutive hundreds at the same venue. Amla did so at Centurion.

From a team’s point of view, Rahul’s century was just as significant.
